Don’t Recycle, Freecycle

March 8th, 2006 · No Comments

By now we all know that we need to recycle, save the world, etc. etc. So if you’re like me, you’ve got one more household chore with very little direct incentive other than an empty recycle bin in the garage. That’s where Freecycle.org comes in. It’s a new social concept being driven by the Internet. Basically it’s a collection of local yahoo groups you join to give stuff away. Instead of throwing out “your used but not abused items” into the trash or sending it to the recycler, you send an “Offer” email offering it to anyone in the group who wants it. Not only do you feel good for helping someone else, but you can also use the service to receive as well by posting “Wanted” emails or by responding to the “Offers” of other group members. Check it out.
