Microsoft Origami Ultra-Mobile PC

March 9th, 2006 · No Comments

So Microsoft just announced a new mobile device at CBIT. The media has been leaking information for the last couple of weeks. Microsoft ran it’s own stealth marketing campaign on www.origamiproject.com.

It’s a cross between a Pocket PC, IPod, Win XP Desktop, Tablet PC, and Dish Network’s PocketDish product. The best thing about this announcement is the move to a full scale, main stream desktop operating system on such a small footprint. Mobile devices have suffered from the large range of operating systems in use. Standardization in the OS is what’s going to spur further software development and main stream adoption.

Scott Lemon has an interesting take on this since he’s been playing with one for some time as part of Agilix Labs. Check out his thoughts here.

What this device really needs is a wireless keyboard, mouse, and monitor (meaning no docking station) combined with a 60GB flash drive to replace the hard drive.
